7 Ways to Re-Use RO Waste Water – 2020

waste RO water reuse

The RO purifiers waste about 2-3 litres of water for every 1-litre of pure water. It depends on the TDS level of input water, higher the TDS level higher will be the waste.

Recycling the RO waste water is not the right decision at all; therefore, it is not advisable. It is wastewater, and you must go for better ways to use rather than recycling. But before using the waste water, you must check the TDS level if the TDS level is higher than 2500 ppm, avoid using it.

We will discuss some of the possible ways to reuse RO wastewater in the following points.

1. Water Your Plant

It is always a better decision to water your plant with the rejected RO water. But you should only water your plant if the TDS level of rejected water is below 2100 ppm. If the TDS level is higher than 2100 ppm, it will affect the plant’s growth, or may the plant die

The rejected water contains a lot of sodium, which affects the fertility of the soil.

Did you know?

Deepika Kurup, an inventor, scientist & clean water advocate, was awarded $25,000 for developing a method to clean water using solar power. She has also proposed a Novel Photocatalytic previous composite.

2. Cleaning and flushing toilets

On average, about 5-8 litres of clean water is used in flushing, which can be easily avoided by reusing the rejected RO water. It may result in changing the seat colour because of the salt deposits, but this can be solved using a regular toilet cleaner.

3. Washing Your Car

On average, we need 75 – 80 litres of water to wash a car, and it can be the best decision to use it for washing your car or other machines. Again you should avoid reusing it if the TDS level if higher than 2000 ppm.

After cleaning with RO wastewater, it is advisable to clean your car with a bucket of clean water to eliminate salt deposits.

4. Washing Utensils

You can use the rejected water to clean cooking utensils. You should not let them dry naturally, you must wipe them with a clean cloth to avoid the accumulation of salt deposits. However, we recommend to not use it if the TDS level is higher than 2500 ppm.

5. Mopping the Floor

It is always a good decision to use the rejected water for mopping the floor, but here is the catch you must mix this with normal tap water to avoid the accumulation of the white layer on the floor. The white is nothing but the salt deposits.

6. Pre-rinse your clothes

You can use rejected RO water for rinsing your clothes before using the semi-automatic washing machine’s rinse cycle. However, we recommend avoiding the high TDS rejected water for delicate fabrics.

7. Fill Cooler Water Tank

Suppose you have a cooler than you can fill the water tank with rejected RO water. However, you should mix it with normal tap water to avoid the accumulation of salt deposits in the water tank. For every 1-bucket of rejected RO water, you should mix 2-bucket of tap water.

Final Words

We hope you find this information useful and apply this wherever you need it. On a simple note, you must avoid the rejected RO water if the TDS level if higher than 2500 ppm.
